Why do we search so much for what we call money?

Answer from the V.M. Samael Aun Weor.

We need money, true, but it is necessary to profoundly comprehend our exact relationship with it. Neither the ascetic nor the covetous miser has ever comprehended what our exact relationship with money is. It is not through renouncing money, nor coveting it, that we can come to understand our exact relationship with it. We need comprehension to intelligently recognize our own material needs without disproportionately depending on money.

When we comprehend our exact relationship with money, the pain of detachment and the frightening suffering that is produced by competition ends. We should learn to differentiate between our immediate physical needs and psychological dependence on things. Psychological dependence on material things creates exploitation and slavery.

We need money to cover our immediate physical needs but, unfortunately, needs are transformed into covetousness. The psychological “I,” perceiving its own emptiness and misery, usually gives money and material things a different value than what they have, an exaggerated and absurd value. That is why the “I” wants to become rich externally since internally it is poor and miserable.

Answer from the Magazine "The Wisdom of the Being".

When we are too internally poor, we need money and things for a personal sensation and satisfaction, we externally seek money and things to complete us, we wrongly want to depend on money and things to dazzle or stand out from others.

We may have a lot of money, there may be many political changes to support those in need, but if we do not deeply understand the nature of our inner poverty, we will always seek new ways to obtain personal satisfaction at the cost of the peace of others.

Greed is the secret cause of hatred and brutalities in this world, that is why we are full of wars and misery, and we are not talking only about the exterior, each of us carries that greed on one level or another. We always claim necessity to justify our greed.

Another cause of the search for money security is fear.

When we are filled with fear because we do not know what will happen in the future, or when we feel fear of poverty, of old age.

When we do not have money then we are willing to steal, exploit and lie at every moment.
