In Arcanum number 14 there is an Angel with a Sun at his forehead and a vessel in each hand, in the act of mixing the Red Elixir with the White Elixir. The Elixir of Long Life results from the mixture of these two. It is, indubitably, this which the medieval Alchemists so yearned for. The White Elixir is woman and the Red Elixir is man, without which it is impossible to produce the Elixir of Long Life. That of the woman emanates from the Moon and that of the man emanates from the Sun; this is indicated by the colors.
